We had a wonderful day at the 2017 Strafford County Democratic Committee picnic. Good food and even better company. It was at Miller Farm, in New Durham, again this year; a perfect setting, and a we were lucky to have the most beautiful summer weather, with a slight breeze all day. Highlights for the speakers were Executive Councilor Andru Volinsky and Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter. The grande finale was getting to meet and listen to Congresswoman Maxine Waters, a person known for being outspoken and not one to shy away from unpopular themes. She connected with many in attendance by not towing tired party lines and long failed party ideology and rhetoric. Mirroring some of the same principles, examinations, and reflections that many successful local progressive politicians in NH have adopted, she presented some much needed perspective and outlined a few, focused action items for local activist to pursue. We are already looking forward to next year's picnic!
