HB 592, the redistricting plan for House districts, was
vetoed because:
- it violates the constitutional principle for equal representation and local representation;
- it is inconsistent in its treatment of similarly situated towns and wards, and
- it unnecessarily changes the boundaries of existing districts
Already, the entire Manchester
delegation of state representatives – Democrats and Republicans – has publicly
vowed to oppose the proposed plan, and several other communities have signaled
similar opposition to the plan. We’re asking you to take a minute TODAY to call or email your state
representatives and urge them to sustain the Governor’s veto.
The House could take up the veto vote as early as Thursday of this week,
and the vote will be very, very close. We are additionally concerned that Speaker O’Brien and his extreme
leadership team may try to unconstitutionally move redistricting through a House Concurrent Order, bypassing the
legislative process and public input altogether.
Speaker O’Brien and his extreme leadership team have done everything in
their power to draw lines based on political gain instead of communities of interest.
They held shoddy, last-minute public input sessions and actively prevented the
public and other members of the House from being able to use redistricting
software developed at the taxpayer’s expense until Granite State Progress
exposed it.
Thank you to all of our members who have been working so diligently on
redistricting these past several months; from the nearly 1,000 Granite State
Progress members who signed the redistricting petition, to those who testified
at meetings or helped circulate the videos exposing various redistricting shenanigans.
We’re almost there … please make this important phone call and send an email today.
In Progress,
Zandra, Caitlin, Tim and the rest of the Granite State
Progress team
